Obtained from a retired Pilot in 1973, they were formed in 1949 they flew the new ( at that time) the Largest Cargo Air Craft Globe Master C-124 A-Model's MATS newly formed Wings all over the world Globe. they needed a Large Aircraft to haul Troops & Cargo to supply all the USAF Bases world wide. the EAST COAST had the largest number of C-124's Assigned. DOVER AFB DOVER DELAWARE had 4 Squadrons of C-124's 31st Squadron was one of them. In 1963 Military Airlift Command was getting the new all jet C-141;s replacing over time all the C-124 aircraft, the 31st was one of the first to go! By 1968 ALL the C-124's were given to all USAF RESERVE Flying Units & the AIR GUARD Units! in 1989 the Air Mobility Command Reactivated the 31st Airlift Squadron to fly the C-5's largest in service. it remained active untill 1994 they were then Deactivated. when the 31st was reformed they completely redesigned the Unit Patch.
