Please not if ordering large quantities there may be a 4-7 day period for me to go diving and dry out enough fish to fill a large order. Also note that each pen is custom made and will vary in colors of Lionfish tails. đź’• thank you so much for your support.
Brand new hand crafted specifically by me from the Lionfish I spear and bring home for dinner. I spear fish in the Gulf of Mexico, primarily in the Pensacola and Destin area off Florida’s beautiful Emerald Coast.
I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about these invasive fish and spreading knowledge whenever I can.
Two of the twelve species of Pterois, the red lionfish (P. volitans) and the common lionfish (P. miles), have established themselves as significant invasive species off the East Coast of the United States and in the Caribbean. About 93% of the invasive population in the Western Atlantic is P. volitans They have been described as "one of the most aggressively invasive species on the planet"
The lionfish invasion is considered to be one of the most serious recent threats to Caribbean and Florida coral reef ecosystems. They are an invasive species in the Atlantic and Caribbean Sea, eating our beautiful fish far faster than they can reproduce. The lionfish can reproduce approximately every 30 days, laying more than 30,000 eggs at one time. They have 13 venomous dorsal spines, 2 venomous pectoral spines, 3 Anal spines. Because of this they unfortunately have no natural predators so it’s important that divers and fisherman begin teaming up to keep their numbers down.
