Banned from the majors for more than 50 years, black baseball players found a venue for their skills in the Negro Leagues. Predictably, the quality of play was superb, even though the pay and transient lifestyle were less so. In thirty vintage photographs supplied by the National Baseball Library and surviving players and compiled by researcher G. Theodore Catherine, this book of postcards salutes the talented ballplayers of the Homestead Grays, the Kansas City Monarchs, the Philadelphia Giants, and other great teams of the Negro Leagues. Brief biographical notes and stats accompany each image.
