Description

Antique 1740 Georgian Sterling Silver Caster Shaker Muffineer.
Fine example of a vase/baluster shape pepper/sugar caster made in london by Samuel Wood. It has the more rare flame finial , elongated neck round bulbous belly and ends in a flared out foot. The piercing on the lid consists of a Chiseled diaper patten background with drilled holes in between.
Its marked on the underside with full clear hallmarks , except on the maker mark part of the w was understruck at the time of the assay.
It also has a tastefully down period engraving D over I A. It also is marked with the lion passant (only the legsAre visible) on the lid where it connects to the maim body. Its amazing its still there from the amount of times the lid was removed/replaced back.
Its in very fine condition and made From a heavy gauge of sterling
The lid fits snugly amd it stands Straight. No repairs have been Done. Their are a couple splits on the lid in the piecrcing which is typical from age **see picture showing all splits. And use. It is not noticeable. Overall it’s in a very fine antique condition.
